Many women have experienced the benefits of ingesting the placenta.
“After I was diagnosed with post partum depression with my first I decided to encapsulate my placenta with my 2nd child. I highly recommend it, the difference was I was able to function and fall completely in love with my baby” Alison
After the placenta has been picked up or delivered I will clean the placenta to remove excess blood and/or clots and check if it is suitable for consumption.
There are two options available depending on your own beliefs
Traditional Chinese Method (TCM) : In TCM theory, the process of labor and birth leaves a lot of open, empty space, which is considered very yin, or cold. Therefore, one major way we can promote healing during the postpartum period is to add yang energy via heat. So to prepare using this method it will be steamed with lemon, ginger and chilli. The placenta is then dehydrated (depending on size of placenta and humidity the processing time can vary) and then ground into a fine powder for encapsulation.
Raw Method : This method skips the steaming process and is often used for clients that adhere to a raw food diet, which is based around the idea that heat destroys vital enzymes in food. The placenta is dehydrated at a low temp and ground to powder ready for encapsulating. Please note this method produces more capsules than the TCM method.
Either method is completed within 2 days, adhering to strict hygienic food grade handling practices and returned to the hospital or your home to optimize your post partum recovery.
Please note the amount of capsules varies depending on size of placenta and the method used.
